I tend to be a bit shy, but I honestly have a lot of interests that I'd love to talk about!
Here are some facts about me:
Other than just bullet point lists of things about me, I have many hobbies, though I'm not always good at keeping up with all of them. I've played the piano since the first grade. I also learned to play the flute back in the fifth grade, but I only played it for a few years for middle school band. I think I still remember a fair bit of it, but I'm definitely rusty.
I also used to draw a lot and write stories for the characters I created. When I was little, I wanted to be an author and illustrate my own books.
I also played a lot with polymer clay (mainly Sculpey III). I would make little figures for my dollhouse. It's been years since I've sculpted with clay, but I've honestly been thinking about getting back into it.
I've done a little bit of cosplaying, starting in 2014 when I went to my first convention with some friends.
Photography is currently my main hobby. It's a way for me to capture memories of my everyday life.
I've tried learning various languages over the years but have never become fully fluent in any of them other than my native tongue (English). I'd like to change that! When I was very young, I took a Saturday class for Chinese, but I didn't keep with it for too long. I felt kind of dumb because I was one of the only kids there who didn't speak it at home, so the teacher often spoke to us in Chinese, expecting us to already understand it. I suppose the class was more for learning how to read and write it. I still remember this awkward moment when I had to ask the teacher if I could go to the restroom, and she couldn't understand me. Another kid had to tell her for me in Chinese. Despite all this, the teacher apparently told my mom that I did well on the tests despite not having as much familiarity with the language as the other students. After quitting, I gave it another try with Rosetta Stone, but as of right now I haven't made much progress.
I also briefly learned Spanish when we had a class for it in elementary school. Back then we didn't get to pick what language we wanted to learn. It's been such a long time since then, and of course we only learned some of the basics (numbers, colors, etc.). But I have many memories of hearing people speak Spanish from when I was little and would stay with my babysitter Lulu, who would often speak Spanish on the phone and around the house.
When I started high school, I took French. The other languages available at my school were Spanish, German, and ASL (American Sign Language). I had some exposure to French through media that I grew up around. I really liked Madeline, and my mom is a huge fan of Tintin and Asterix. I studied French for three years in high school and for a year in college. Unfortunately I'm still not the best at it, but I have a great appreciation for the language, and it's probably the language I have the most knowledge of besides English (even though it's still not super substantial). I actually went on a class trip to Paris and Barcelona in 2014, which was really cool!
I considered taking German in high school because there were a number of German indie bands that I was super into at the time (specifically Anajo and Fotos). I don't regret picking French, but something about German still intrigues me. I ended up taking a semester of it in college with my boyfriend Isaac, and I enjoyed it!
I've also had an interest in Japanese for a while now, and it's something I'm currently studying on my own. I've made my way through all the hiragana and katakana characters and am currently attempting to learn kanji. It's no easy task, to put it lightly! I think I at least recognize some of the characters from when I briefly studied Chinese, but of course they're not usually pronounced the same in Japanese.
I've been super into RPG Maker games since 2016, when a friend recommended OFF to me after I played Undertale and loved it a lot. I own RPG Maker 2003 and RPG Maker MV, but I haven't done much with either other than just messing around and making some ugly maps. But I'd like to make a game someday.
I also tried Ren'py a little bit and actually was able to slap together something that ran, though it was certainly rough around the edges. I haven't played nearly as many visual novels as RPG Maker games, but they do interest me.
Well, that's probably enough rambling for now. I hope you liked reading this page and learning way more about me than you probably ever wanted to know. Feel free to contact me!
